LANSING, Mich. — Three Lansing stages are rolling out plays with deep roots in early November, from a Pulitzer-winning look at a Chicago neighborhood to a retold Greek myth and a dark comedy about selling souls.
Riverwalk Theatre opens Clybourne Park in its Black Box space at 228 Museum Drive on Nov. 5, with performances Nov. 5-8 and 12-15. The Bruce Norris play picks up where A Raisin in the Sun leaves off, following a single Chicago house first in 1959, when white neighbors try to keep a Black family out, and again 50 years later as gentrification arrives. Thursday shows start at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
At Lansing Community College, students take on Eurydice, playwright Sarah Ruhl’s 2003 version of the Orpheus myth told from the bride’s point of view, at Dart Auditorium Nov. 6-8 and 13-14.
Peppermint Creek Theatre Co. brings Jen Silverman’s Witch to Stage One Nov. 6-8 and 12-15. The play follows a devil who drifts into a quiet village offering residents their deepest wishes in exchange for their souls, while the town outcast argues for integrity.
