DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Three days after regional developers floated a giant data center for Delhi Township, the township board voted 6-0 Friday night to go on record against it.
The Lansing Economic Area Partnership and Lighthouse Sustainability, a Colorado company, unveiled the idea Tuesday at a news conference rather than first bringing it to the township board. They described a roughly $10 billion, 700-megawatt project on the Holt Economic Opportunity Park, a 423-acre tract off College Road just west of U.S. 127.
The township pulled out of the economic development partnership on Wednesday, and on Friday Supervisor Eddie Montemayor said he no longer considered himself part of its board. He accused the developer of pressuring residents with phone calls and misleading mailers.
Residents filled the township senior center for the special meeting, and most who spoke opposed the plan, citing noise and views near a lakeside park, though a few urged the board not to reject a project before it was formally proposed.
Any data center would still need a rezoning, since the land is not zoned for industrial use, and Delhi Township already has a 12-month moratorium on data centers that runs until April 2027.
