LANSING, Mich. — In Lansing, city crews, Downtown Lansing Inc., plus Board of Water & Light teams put the oversized red holiday ornaments back in place Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Michigan Avenue-Washington Square roundabout.
Board of Water & Light crews and city Public Service staff hauled the fiberglass spheres up Washington Square and seated them in the circle, the downtown cue that holiday shopping season has started.
The display kicks off a broader holiday reset ahead of the state Christmas tree’s planned Saturday, Nov. 7, arrival. Once the Iron Mountain spruce is set, workers will begin stringing lights for the capital celebration.
Silver Bells in the City returns Friday, Nov. 20, for its 42nd year. Organizers say the Electric Light Parade leaves around 6 p.m. from Lenawee and South Washington Square, with the Capitol tree lighting afterward.
A holiday shopping village is planned that evening along Allegan Street’s east and west 100 blocks from 5 to 9 p.m. The ornaments are expected to remain through the season.
