Michigan Treasury Moves More Taxes Online

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Treasury is folding several more taxes into its online eServices platform on Nov. 12, and taxpayers who handle those accounts face a stretch of closed call centers and offline systems in the days before the switch.

Once the expansion is live, individuals and businesses can manage Treasury-administered city income taxes, the wholesale marijuana tax, the marijuana retailers excise tax, the motor fuel tax, the tobacco tax and 9-1-1 accounts through the platform. In Detroit, residents and companies will be able to register a business, file and pay city taxes entirely online for the first time.

Some older systems are going away. MiMATS, the separate system for fuel and tobacco taxes, is being absorbed into eServices, and marijuana retailers and bulk filers of city employer withholding tax are moving over from Michigan Treasury Online. Sales, use and withholding filing will stay in Michigan Treasury Online.

The transition comes with interruptions. Several Treasury web platforms began going down at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30. Business tax call centers are closed Nov. 4 and 5, individual income tax lines are closed Nov. 5 and 6, and lines for city income, marijuana, fuel and tobacco and miscellaneous taxes are closed Nov. 4 through 6, with limited collections service those days.

Wholesale marijuana tax payers have a specific blackout. That tax cannot be paid in eServices from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11. Starting at 7 a.m. on Nov. 12, registration and filing for it open in the platform, and all 2026 quarterly returns for the tax are due Jan. 20, 2027.

Treasury is urging affected taxpayers to make payments and send returns before the cutover. People who already have a MiLogin profile may be able to keep using it, and the department says all systems return Nov. 12.
