PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Michigan goes looking for its first Big Ten road victory of the season Saturday when the Wolverines visit Rutgers at SHI Stadium, a building where they have rarely struggled.
Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. Eastern, with the game on BTN and streaming on FOX One.
The Wolverines have dominated the series, winning nine in a row since Rutgers took the first meeting 26-24 in 2014. Michigan is 4-1 in New Jersey and has put up at least 35 points on each of its last four trips there, including a 52-17 win in 2022. A victory would run the series streak to 10 and make it five straight wins for Michigan as the visitor.
Defense has carried the team. Michigan ranks third nationally in total defense and seventh against the pass, giving up about 154.6 passing yards a game, and it held Indiana to 81 yards through the air last week. Safety Chris Bracy earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after a career-best 13 tackles in that game, and linebacker Troy Bowles leads the team with 55 stops.
The offense is younger. Tommy Carr, a first-year quarterback, got his first collegiate start in the Indiana game, and receiver JJ Buchanan leads Michigan with 33 catches for 539 yards and four scores. The Wolverines have converted seven of 10 fourth-down tries.
Rutgers comes in after a 37-30 win over Maryland. Michigan also has its rivalry date with Ohio State on the calendar for Nov. 28.
