EDMONTON, Alberta — Michal Postava turned his first NHL start into a win Monday night, making 25 saves and turning away all three Edmonton shooters in the tiebreaker as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Oilers 4-3 in a shootout at Rogers Place.
Detroit needed a late push to get there. With Postava on the bench for an extra skater, captain Dylan Larkin pulled the Red Wings even at 3-3 with 1:26 left in regulation, steering a Lucas Raymond pass off his skate and slipping it through the pads of Tristan Jarry. Postava then stopped Evan Bouchard from the slot with nine seconds to go in overtime.
Raymond scored the only goal of the shootout and finished with two assists. Viktor Arvidsson had a power-play goal and an assist, and Emmitt Finnie also scored.
The 24-year-old goalie became the third Red Wings netminder in the past 25 years to win his first start, after Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard.
The win lifted Detroit to 5-4-3 and closed the four-game trip at 2-1-1, two days after a 4-1 loss in Calgary. The teams meet again Jan. 2 at Little Caesars Arena.
