DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Township leaders cut the ribbon Tuesday, Oct. 13, on a new Senior and Activity Center at the former Colt Elementary School — the product of a years-long partnership with Waverly Community Schools.
Since 2023, township and district leaders have remade the shuttered school into a dual-use hub. Waverly Superintendent Glenn Mitcham said the center gives area seniors a warm place to gather and build community.
Officials said the project replaces an older enrichment center that had structural problems, high repair costs and limited, hard-to-reach space. Guests toured the renovated facility at the opening.
The center sits on Michigan Avenue on Lansing’s west metro side, minutes from downtown offices along the same corridor. Action Network listed the ribbon cutting at the former Colt campus as the community celebration for the new senior and activities space.
Ingham County residents from neighboring Lansing neighborhoods are among seniors expected to use programs once regular schedules are fully online.
