LANSING, Mich. — People from the Lansing area and beyond took part Sunday in the 50th Greater Lansing CROP Hunger Walk, a Church World Service fundraiser that organizers say is rare to sustain for half a century.
A Church World Service organizer said the walk’s $75,000 goal for this year builds on more than $3 million raised over 50 years. By Sunday evening, the event had raised more than $20,000 toward that goal.
Money supports international hunger programs and local partners. The executive director of the South Lansing Ministries Food Pantry said area families are facing elevated need and that the pantry benefits directly from CROP Walk funds.
Organizers also ran a community food and school-supply drive, with volunteers packing backpacks, notebooks and canned goods for local distribution. The official event page invites walkers and teams to raise money for meals in the community and food security abroad.
For Lansing, Mich., the anniversary walk underscored a long civic habit of turning out for hunger relief even as fundraising continues online after the Sunday route.
