ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan gets a ranked visitor Saturday that has not had to answer a loss in almost two years. Sixth-ranked Indiana comes to Michigan Stadium coming off a 19-15 defeat to Ohio State, the first time in 23 games the Hoosiers have lost.
That setback ended Indiana’s school-record 22-game winning streak and a 19-game home winning streak, runs that included a Big Ten title, a national championship and a 16-0 season. Under Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers have never dropped two in a row, and the last time they had to rebound from a loss, in late 2024, they beat Purdue 66-0 the next week.
Indiana is 6-1 and 3-1 in the Big Ten. Michigan is 4-2 and 1-2 in conference play and has scored 136 points, the fewest in the league. The Wolverines will start freshman quarterback Tommy Carr this week.
Michigan also added depth to its secondary. Cornerback Jeremiah Earby, a fifth-year player who started all 28 games over two seasons at Boise State, was officially placed on the roster Tuesday and could be available. He made 94 tackles with five interceptions and 20 pass breakups for the Broncos and earned second-team All-Mountain West honors.
History favors the home side. Indiana has not won in Ann Arbor since 1967, and the Hoosiers have not beaten Michigan in back-to-back meetings since 1958 and 1959. Indiana won the last matchup 20-15 in Bloomington in 2024; the teams did not play last season.
Speaking Monday, Cignetti praised his team’s effort in its last two games and said he expects the same fight in Ann Arbor.
