LANSING, Mich. — Amy Boyles, principal of Lansing’s Everett High School, is Michigan’s High School Principal of the Year. The Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals named her for the honor Wednesday.
Boyles took over at Everett in 2021 and brings 25 years in education to the job. The association credited her with steadying staff, lifting student engagement and making the building safer.
Her nomination points to sharp gains. Yearly office discipline referrals at the school fell from above 2,000 to fewer than 400, and the graduation rate climbed to 95%.
The award was presented during a gathering in the Everett gym, with Lansing School District Superintendent Jessica Benavides and Mayor Andy Schor on hand. Boyles now advances as Michigan’s nominee for the national High School Principal of the Year honor, which will be decided in spring 2027.
Everett serves grades 9 through 12 and offers a visual and performing arts focus alongside its comprehensive program. The Lansing Board of Education holds its next regular meeting and study session at 6 p.m. Thursday at the district administration building, 519 W. Kalamazoo St.
