DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was still in a hospital Monday recovering from a neck injury, and the team said early indications about his condition are encouraging.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, the Lions said Campbell continues to rest and recover and that preliminary signs are positive, adding that the team would hold back further details out of respect for him and his family.

Campbell went down while making a tackle on Minnesota tight end T.J. Hockenson on the opening snap of the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 19-15 Detroit win. He lay face down and did not move at first, then was secured to a backboard and driven off on a cart as the crowd applauded and nearly the entire Lions roster and coaching staff gathered around him. Campbell was conscious and breathing as the cart took him away for hospital care.

Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters Monday that he visited the hospital Sunday night along with many players, met with the linebacker’s parents and wife and found the family upbeat. He called the news positive, described the injury as a small setback and asked fans to keep praying for his defensive captain.

Campbell, a former Iowa standout taken 18th overall in the 2023 draft, earned All-Pro honors last season and signed a four-year extension last May that keeps him under contract through 2030. Detroit plays at Miami on Sunday.
