EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State women’s basketball tuned up for the season in East Lansing with a 100-53 rout of Michigan Tech on Wednesday night, its first and only exhibition before games start to count.

The 6:30 p.m. tip at the Breslin Center doubled as Costume Night. A newcomer stole the show: freshman Monique Bobongie, who arrived from Queensland, Australia, led the Spartans with 21 points in her debut.

Carter McCray, the forward who came over from West Virginia, missed only once in nine tries and finished with 20. Kennedy Blair, a junior guard, scored 13. Tabitha Betson, in from Colorado, posted 12, and Theryn Hallock, a senior guard, had 11.

The Huskies got 13 points from Soraya Timms, a senior guard who played her high school ball at East Lansing High, who knocked down three of her seven long-range attempts.

The 47-point margin gives the Spartans a confident start. The regular season opens back at the Breslin Center on Nov. 3, when Valparaiso visits for a 6:30 p.m. start.
