EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. is back in the running for college basketball’s top honor at his position, as the East Lansing school announced Monday that he is among the 2027 Bob Cousy Award candidates being tracked by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The redshirt junior is one of 20 players on the list. He was among five finalists for the same award a year ago, and this preseason he has already been picked as the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year.

Fears ran the Spartans offense during a 27-8 season that included a 15-5 Big Ten record. He averaged 15.2 points and a nation-best 9.4 assists, and no other Division I player reached 15 points and nine assists per game. His 328 assists set a new school record, passing the old mark held by Cassius Winston.

The field also includes Michigan guard Elliot Cadeau and UConn guard Silas Demary Jr., who scored 14.5 points per game across the Huskies’ first two preseason wins, one of them over Michigan State. UConn has produced three Cousy winners, most recently Tristen Newton in 2024.

The list will be trimmed to 10 in February and five in March before a winner is chosen. Fan voting opens Friday, Oct. 30, and the Spartans open the regular season at home against Quinnipiac on Monday, Nov. 2.
