EAST LANSING, Mich. — Make It Sweet, a family-run bakery and cafe in East Lansing, plans to shut its shop on East Grand River Avenue after business on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The owners said the decision has nothing to do with sales. After six years in business they still have loyal regulars, but they want more time at home with their young children.
The bakery is known for a menu that changes every week, with macarons, fruit tarts, cake by the slice and gourmet cookies among the regular offerings. The owners describe themselves as a family of four who took a leap of faith to open a shop in the community they call home.
They have also hinted that the brand could return later, most likely through pop-up events, and promised to post updates for followers.
Their second business, TOASTE, will keep operating in Brookfield Plaza at Grand River and Hagadorn. That cafe serves handmade sandwiches, desserts, specialty drinks and Taiwanese-style honey toast.
