DETROIT, Mich. — Ron Duguay, a flashy forward who spent almost three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings during a 12-year NHL career, has died at 69. The Red Wings and the New York Rangers both announced his death Thursday.

He disclosed in February that doctors had found colon cancer late in 2024, and that it had reached stage 4.

The Rangers made the Sudbury, Ontario, native the 13th overall pick in the 1977 draft, and he helped them reach the Stanley Cup Final in 1979. He played in the 1982 NHL All-Star Game.

New York traded him to Detroit ahead of the 1983-84 season. Skating on a line with Steve Yzerman, he posted 90 goals and 217 points as a Red Wing. His top NHL season came in 1984-85, when he piled up 89 points for Detroit, 38 of them goals, over 80 games.

The Red Wings dealt him to Pittsburgh in March 1986. He later played for Los Angeles, then went back to New York, where he worked as a Rangers studio analyst.

Duguay finished his career with 274 goals and 620 points in 864 regular-season games.
