LANSING, Mich. — Spare Time in Lansing is done as a bowling alley, but its lanes are getting a second act a few miles away as the floor of a new roller skating rink.

The longtime bowling and entertainment center has been dark since April 2025, when a fire that started in a storage trailer spread to the building. Its sign recently switched from temporarily closed to permanently closed, and the property is now on the market.

High Caliber Karting and Entertainment said Monday it acquired the wood lanes, plus some of the lighting, and will rebuild them into a rink inside its Okemos complex at Meridian Mall, at 1982 W. Grand River Ave. It will fill the area once used for throw bowling, across from axe throwing.

The company plans to open the rink in November 2026, ahead of the holidays. Opening day, skating hours and prices have not been set.

Skating joins a lineup at the complex that already includes go-karts, drift karting, an arcade, axe throwing and rage rooms. What will become of the Spare Time building itself is unclear.
