LANSING, Mich. — Lansing, Mich., police say they have resolved the long-unsolved 2009 homicide of 19-year-old Edric Hinton and will detail the investigation at a Monday, Oct. 12, news conference with family members present.
An initial department notice referred to an arrest before officials updated the language to a resolution and said more would be explained Monday. A regional tip bulletin describing the case has been marked solved.
Hinton was shot Aug. 1, 2009, while visiting acquaintances in an apartment in the 900 block of West Cavanaugh Road on the city’s south side. Multiple gunshots were reported that night, and police at the time said the shooting was not random.
According to tip-line accounts refreshed for the campaign, Hinton was hit by a bullet that came through an apartment window from outside. He had been born and raised in Lansing, loved NFL football and had enrolled at Lansing Community College.
Police called his death a senseless act of gun violence in earlier public appeals. Monday’s briefing is expected to outline how investigators closed the file more than 17 years later.
Residents in Lansing, Mich., who followed the killing for years heard a rare cold case update tied to a south-side apartment shooting that stunned neighbors in 2009.
