LANSING, Mich. — State officials are asking residents to help write a new statewide guide that explains how Michigan roads, drinking water, energy, internet and other essential systems work, who maintains them, and how improvement decisions get made.
The Michigan Infrastructure Council is developing the Citizen Guide to Infrastructure Systems and opened an 11-question online survey that takes about 10 minutes. Responses are due by Oct. 30, 2026, and the finished guide is expected in spring 2027.
Council chair Palencia Mobley said infrastructure is part of almost everything people do each day, yet many residents do not know how the systems work or why they matter. Officials want public feedback on which topics and questions the guide should answer so people can make informed choices and speak up on projects that affect their communities.
The survey asks which infrastructure issues matter most, how service disruptions affect daily life, and how residents currently get information about projects and outages. Feedback will help the council prioritize content and present it in a clear, accessible format covering funding, maintenance responsibility, and the factors that drive project decisions.
More information and the survey are available through the council pages at Michigan.gov/MIC. The council says its mission is to strengthen partnerships that support public and environmental health, economic prosperity, and quality of life across the state.
